25 - 35 m tall tree. His trunk is even, straight, gray. His leaves are skin-like, the leaf margin is entire, covered with downy hairs. The beech acorn is a triangular pyramid-shaped dry crop. In one crop capsule, two beech acorn are located.
Confusion with other plants
The leaf shape and veining similar to the hornbeam. The hornbeam leaf's margin is serrated edge, while the beech's is entire.There are differences in the trunk patters as well : the cross-section of hornbeam's trunk is irregular and marble-like, contrary to beech's trunk, which is regular, straight and grey
