He is a 5 – 25 cm tall, perennial plant. His stems and roots contain a bitter, white, milky latex. The stems are hollow, unbranched, leafless. Leaves are typically lobed, hairless and growing directly from the taproot, forming a rosette. The composite flowers are bright yellow forming a capitula.
